News at Home
Ok so wow… remember me? I just did a search to see when my last Sunday Post was and it was March 2023! Needless to say A LOT has happened in that time and there’s absolutely no way I will catch y’all up in one reasonable length post so I won’t even try. The highlights:
- Dante is doing amazing! He started PreK part time in August (he turned 5 in September, so he is right on schedule actually with our August 31 age cut off here). He’s at PreK Mon, Wed, and Fri from 7:50 – 12:35 and then I pick him up and take him to ABA from 1 -3 . Tues and Thurs he’s at ABA all day (9-3). And then he also has Speech, Feeding Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy 1-2x each per week. So my schedule is fairly insane with lots of running around while still trying to work a full time job.
- Work is going well – I was promoted in May 2024 and I still really like being a software engineer and the people I work with. I had a big scare in September 2024 when they announced they were shutting down the Dallas office and requiring all employees to either relocate to Bentonville, AR by July 31, 2025 or leave the company at the end of May 2025. Extremely long story short, I did a visit to Bentonville in October, visited every ABA location they had for Dante in a 45 minute radius, discovered that there was no way I could bring him there and managed to use that information to be one of 8 people in the Dallas office to receive an exception that allows me to be an remote employee. I do not feel secure anymore though, so one of my goals this year is to get myself into a position where finding a new job will be easier.
- We bought a house! We have been home owners for 1 year now and I just love our home so much. It’s a 1958 house, so older with lots of character. We have a nice big backyard, which is a big deal for the DFW area while still being in the suburbs rather than rural areas. Which was important because of schools – and we got a house in the #1 school district in the metroplex for Special Needs. All while staying well within our budget – a real feat. We’ve already done a lot of entertaining here and making memories. So yeah, I love it.
Blog News
Well – I’m here. That alone is news right? LOL! In all seriousness, I miss this community and what it has meant for me over the past decade. I’ve had limited interaction through COYER and Anne’s readalong, but I’d like to find space for blogging again. I’ve made it a goal, but without high expectations for posting, reviewing, commenting, etc. One step at a time as I figure out how blogging can fit into my current very hectic life. And I’m writing this as if anyone will even know I posted after nearly 2 years of not being here… we’ll see!
Other than that, COYER Out To Lunch has kicked off and you can still sign up! It’s a low key year but should still be fun!
#FitReaders2025
Felicia the Geeky Blogger and Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About co-host this fitness-oriented group and while I’ve paid attention on Facebook, I’m excited to be trying to return this year with a commitment to health and fitness on the blog too.
Goals for 2025:
This year I bought myself a Cultivate What Matters PowerSheets Goal Planner and I’m super excited to use it towards all my goals, including health. I love the way it breaks goals down into really small pieces. So my big goal for 2025:
I will prioritize my physical well-being by establishing and maintaining consistent daily health routines the support my body’s needs.
All the stress of the past few months (since August with PreK and then September my job, not to mention the election) resulted in me having some really bad panic attacks in November. I got myself into a psychiatrist (I already see a therapist) and am now on a couple medicines. But I also know I need to take better care of my mental health.
This week: The big routine I’ve started is journaling, something I used to do religiously. I bought a really great self-care journal that combines daily agenda /to-dos with some morning affirmations and gratitude and then evening reflection.
Next week: Next week we get back to the regular daily grind. So it’s about carrying over some routines that have been there but not solid – 80 oz water daily, 3x strength exercise weekly, and carrying over this new habit of my self-care journal. One step at a time!
Welcome back, Berls! And thank you for the update! Congratulations on the house and promotion, and I am so glad to hear Dante is doing well. Good luck with your goals this year. You’re going to do great. Have a Happy New Year!
Welcome back – I’ve missed your posts even though we talk anyway. I’m so happy the house has worked out so well for you. Do what you can that you enjoy. If you post once a week or once a month. Happy New Year.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Nice to see you back! I am impressed you even updated all the links! Go you!
I hope this will be the year we finally start, at least a little, come back but no pressure.
I actually want to do a post for COYER since this year I am hoping to actually join the challenge we host 🙂
Yay! Welcome back! Again! That’s great about the house! I’m still looking for one myself in my area and it’s slow going for what I can afford in places I feel safe living in. Right now all the houses that are in my budget are not in great neighborhoods, so I am still looking. Hopefully 2025 can be my year as I’d really like my own space. Wishing you the best of luck with the job search! That’s great that you got to be in the exception group, but I’d be worried too for how long that could last. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
